PURCHASE, N.Y. – Despite trailing 1-0 less than a minute into the contest, the Manhattanville College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday night. The decision moves the Valiants' record on the year to 2-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 against the Skyline Conference.
As fans were still making their way to the bleachers, the Dolphins got on the board just 47 seconds into regulation. Tyrone Malango finished a pass from Ian Lamas to give Mount Saint Vincent the early lead and momentum.
Even finding themselves in the early hole, the Valiants played strong on both sides of the ball, logging seven shots while holding the Dolphins to just one more following the goal. The game plan proved to be successful, as Manhattanville held the Dolphins off the board for the remainder of the night while recording a quick goal of their own to begin the second half.
Jackson Ayres (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) knotted the score 54 seconds following half time, the first of his collegiate career. While the Valiants would continue to get more chances offensively, outshooting the Dolphins 10-6 over the second half and the overtime periods, the golden goal eluded Manhattanville for the second time this season after 110 minutes of play.
In net,
Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) logged four saves after allowing the opening score. The sophomore netminder drops his goal-against average to 0.95 on the year.
