Galgano's Career Night Leads Men's Basketball Comeback Against Old Westbury

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Overcoming Old Westbury's deep ball threats, the Manhattanville College men's basketball team defeated the Panthers at Kennedy Gymnasium on Tuesday night. The win brings the Valiants back to .500 on the season at 6-6 and 3-2 in Skyline play.

Petey Galgano (New Rochelle, N.Y./Wilbraham & Monson Academy (Mass.)) put together his best game of the season, making plays all over the court. The senior guard set a new career high with 21 points, shooting .474 from the field on the night. Galgano pulled down 11 rebounds to earn his second double-double of the season, and was two assists shy of the triple-double, dishing out eight helpers. To cap it all off, Galgano added three steals to what was a very impressive stat total.

It was far from a one man show, however, as the Valiants used a team effort to get the job done. Tommy Lotito (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) scored 20 with seven rebounds, while Jake Dunn (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) added 15 with six boards. Connor Yetman (Sydney, Australia/The Scots College (H.S.)) set a new season best with 11 rebounds, matching his career high from 2018.

The great performances all around were needed to mount a response against the Old Westbury shooters, as the Panthers were seemingly hitting every deep ball at will. The visitors were 14-of-33 from beyond the arc on the night, opening up the contest by shooting 56 percent on three pointers in the first half. Despite the Panthers draining threes, the Valiants continued to hang around. With Old Westbury ahead by nine with 9:19 left in the half, Manhattanville used a 7-0 run to pull back to within two. The Crimson and White would go on to take the lead off a pair of free throws and a three by Dunn, but the Panthers closed out the half on an 11-2 run over the final 4:15 to retake the lead.

Old Westbury would slowly build out to a 13 point lead five minutes into the second, their biggest lead of the night. A string of eight unanswered points by the Valiants brought the score within striking distance again, with Manhattanville continuing to chip away. With the Panthers up 65-61, Galgano hit a free throw and sank a jumper ahead of a pair of free throws from Dunn to give the Valiants their first lead of the half. A crucial 6-0 run would firmly put the Valiants ahead for good. The Panthers would narrow the lead down to two off a Nigel Carter three, but Manhattanville responded with a pair of Lotito jumpers to put the home team up six with a minute to play, closing out the rest of the way.
