Six Different Scorers, Four Unanswered Goals Leads Men's Hockey Past King's

PITTSTON, Pa. – Utilizing six different goal scorers on the night, the Manhattanville College men's hockey team was victorious at King's College on Friday night. With a 6-2 win, the Valiants improve to 8-5-2 on the season and 5-3-2 in UCHC play.

After a 6-5 overtime thriller against King's at home back in November, the Valiants were able to stymie the Monarchs' offense in Friday's rematch completing the season sweep. While the home team struck first with Rhett Padgett scored 10 minutes into the contest, Manhattanville responded with four straight tallies to take the lead and never look back.

It would be Jarod Lavallee (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) getting things started for the Vals, scoring his eighth of the season at 16:16 in the first off a pass from Mason Emoff (Collingwood, Ont./Bishop's College School) to even things up at 1-1. The tie would not stick for long, as just 16 seconds later Dylan Pollak (New Fairfield, Conn./South Kent School) netted his second goal of the season courtesy of assists by Raymond Speerbrecker (British Columbia, Canada/George Elliot Secondary School) and Artem Mateichenko (Kharkov, Ukraine/NVK Dominanta). Tristan Frese (Broomfield, CO/Don Bosco Prep) went on to cap off the first by scoring an unassisted goal with just five seconds remaining in the period, his third of the year to spot the Valiants a 3-1 lead.

The streak extended to four unanswered as Connor Boyce (St. Albans, Vt./The Winchendon School) buried a setup from Nick Prestia (Niagara Falls, Ont./Salisbury School) and Alex Rowella (Ridgefield, Conn./Holy Cross (H.S.)) 8:16 into the second period. The Monarchs would put an end to the Valiants' goal part as Jack Cooper netted a shot from Casey Gerstein at 14:09 to pull back to within two.

The score would hold at 4-2 into the third before James Gregory (Darien, CT/Darien High School) capitalized on a power play opportunity and a set up from Lavallee to put Manhattanville back up by three 35 seconds into the period. Hayden Taylor (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) would put a close on the game with his second of the year with 20 seconds remaining in the game.

Reid Robertson (Plano, Texas/Plano West) was once again the man in the crease for the Valiants, making his third straight start. The senior wasn't tested frequently, but did make 20 saves throughout the night to secure the win. Robertson improves to 2-1-1 on the season with a 3.60 goals-against average.

King's won the faceoff battles 29-19, with Lavallee leading the way for Manhattanville with seven wins on the draw. The Valiants went 1-for-5 on the power play with three total shots, while the Monarchs were held without a goal in their two chances with the man advantage, logging three shots.
