RYE, N.Y. – A three-goal second period by the visiting Arcadia Knights was enough to upend the Manhattanville College men's hockey team on Friday night, 3-2. With the loss, the Valiants fall to 8-7-2 and 5-5-2 in the UCHC.
Mason Emoff (Collingwood, Ont./Bishop's College School) got the home team on the board first at 14:36, collecting a breakout pass from
Jamie Dorsey (Wilbraham, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon) on the Arcadia blue line to score on the breakaway.
James Gregory (Darien, CT/Darien High School) earned the secondary assist on Emoff's fourth of the year.
The lead would hold at 1-0 into the second, where the Knights would net three goals in a five minute span. It started 7:04 into the period, as Dylan Florit fired a shot in off a feed from James Spaargaren to even the score up at 1-1. Two minutes later, Kale Lone fired one home to give Arcadia their first lead of the night. The advantage would grow to two at 12:15, after Halen Cookston scored a bizarre goal, firing a puck from behind the net that found its way into the goal to spell the end of the night for
Tyler Roy (Brighton, MI/Brighton High School).
Niko Happo (Kauniainen, Finland/Haukilahti Upper Secondary School) got the Valiants back within one on the tailend of a Manhattanville power play, scoring off assists from
Alex Rowella (Ridgefield, Conn./Holy Cross (H.S.)) and
AJ Bella (Norwalk, Conn./Connecticut Roughriders (EHL)). The Valiants would generate a lot of pressure in the third period, outshooting Arcadia 16-5 over the final 20 minutes, but Jeb Lindy stopped everything fired his way in the final frame to secure the win.
Roy was charged with the loss in net for the Valiants, making 22 saves across 35 minutes of play.
Reid Robertson (Plano, Texas/Plano West) played solid in relief goalkeeping duties, stopping all 12 shots he saw. Faceoffs were 34-28 in Arcadia's favor on the night, with Rowella winning a team-high 14 for Manhattanville. The Valiants successfully killed off Arcadia's lone power play attempt, holding the Knights to four shots on their five minute man advantage. The Valiants, meanwhile, went 1-for-4 with nine shots on their power play chances.
