PURCHASE, N.Y. – In a dreary-weather Saturday afternoon conference matchup, the Manhattanville College men's soccer team defeated Maritime College, 8-0.
Kendall Davis (Atlanta, Georgia/Immaculata),
Demba Cham (Bronx, NY/World View High School),
Joseph Kresse (Goshen, NY/Goshen High School), and
Alex Rojas (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) all contributed to the victory as the Valiants moved to 6-3-1 on the season and a perfect 4-0-0 in Skyline play.
The first goal of the contest was scored in just the second minute by Manhattanville's
Kendall Davis (Atlanta, Georgia/Immaculata), displayed the pace for the rest of the Valiants campaign. In the eighth minute,
Demba Cham (Bronx, NY/World View High School) tallied his first goal of the day to give the team a 2-0 lead. Just 14 seconds later, a hard luck bounce off a Maritime defender would result in Manhattanville's third goal.
The Valiants maintained control of the ball for a majority of the contest, continuing to fire shots in the offensive end. In the 15
th minute, Cham would score again for the fourth Valiant goal. Soon after in the 20
th minute,
Joseph Kresse (Goshen, NY/Goshen High School) put the fifth goal on the board to keep Manhattanville ahead.
Alex Rojas (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) tallied two goals for the Valiants in the 26
th and 30
th minute to end scoring in the first half and put Manhattanville up, 7-0.
The second half would be a slow, back and forth for the Valiants and Privateers until the 72
nd minute when a Maritime yellow card would allow a Manhattanville penalty kick. Rojas would beat the goalie going right and score the eighth goal of the day, his third of the match for his first-career hat trick. The Valiants would later come out victorious, 8-0.
The Valiants took 17 shots with 13 being on goal, and the Privateers ended the match with 5 shots taken, three on goal.
Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) was in net for the first half, tallying one save.
Jake Rothluebbers (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union High School) took goal for the second half, making his first appearance of the season and recording two saves. Maritime's goalie Danny Madeira played the full 90 minutes, allowing eight goals with five saves. The Valiants had a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Valiants will be back at home on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. for a conference matchup against the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
