Girard's 12 Saves Leads Women's Soccer to Scoreless Draw With Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Taking the field for their penultimate matchup of the regular season, the Manhattanville College women's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw at Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon. The decision moves Manhattanville's overall record to 6-8-2 and 6-2-2 in Skyline play, bringing the Valiants to 20 points in conference action to currently hold fourth place in the conference standings entering the final week of play.

The Rams held the majority of the chances on the day, outshooting the Valiants 20-8, but a stellar performance in goal by Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) held Farmingdale off the board to earn a hard-fought draw. The rookie netminder totaled 12 saves, her most in a game since Sept. 14, to preserve the shutout. The complete game effort by Girard lowers her goals-against average on the year to 1.56.

While Girard was busy turning away everything she saw, the Valiant attack was unable to find success of their own on the other side of the field. Only four of Manhattanville's eight shots were on target, with all four stopped by the Rams' Lindsey Jolly. Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy), Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke), Megan Leser (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) and Maddie Dobbs (Mindoro, Wis./Melrose-Mindoro) all put a ball on net, with Jolly denying each.

Farmingdale fired 14 shots in the second half alone, forcing Girard to make eight saves over the final 45 minutes to maintain the 0-0 deadlock.

Corner kicks were even at four apiece for both teams.
