The first period did not see any scored goals as both teams battled back and forth on the ice. Manhattanville held a 19-11 advantage in shots during the 20-minute span that passed by quickly. Neither the Valiants nor the Knights gained an edge while the lack of stoppages helped get the game right into the next period.
In the second period, Manhattanville was in control offensively with 24 shots fired while Arcadia had 14. Despite the increased offense. both teams would go scoreless once again.
In the final 20 minutes, the Valiants would dominate with 25 shots but were unable to find the back of the net, and the Knights fired off eight shots overall. This game was all about defense and a combined 51 saves came from both ends showcasing the talent in net and 25 blocked shots from the back line.
Once the final buzzer of regulation sounded with a score of 0-0, both teams took to the ice for five minutes of overtime. Arcadia would win the initial faceoff and hold the puck long enough to fire a shot on goal that would be saved. The second faceoff would go in favor of the Knights as well but after a quick steal and pass, the Valiants would break away.
Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y./Millbrook School) took to the center, passed ahead to
Grace Felicio (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) on the left who would then slide a shot right past Sophia Szelag, Arcadia's goalkeeper. That was all she wrote, as the 1-0 overtime win extends the Valiants' season-opening win streak to six, their best start to a year since winning seven straight in the 2004-05 season.
Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) recorded her fourth shutout of the season with 18 saves total, along with one stop in the 1:13 of overtime play.
