Women's Soccer Falls to Sarah Lawrence in Skyline Semifinals, 1-0

YONKERS, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's soccer season came to an end on Wednesday night following a 1-0 loss to Sarah Lawrence in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Championship. The loss will bring Manhattanville's final record on the season to 6-10-2 as the Valiants' postseason run draws to a close in the semis for the second consecutive season.

After their 2-1 First Round win over Saint Joseph's-Long Island over the weekend, the fifth-seeded Valiants were unable to get a shot past No. 1 Sarah Lawrence and their netminder Bridgette Lee. Manhattanville took eight shots in the contest with three going on net.

In a defensive battle, the contest was scoreless through the first 57 minutes of play. With both teams desperate for a scoring chance, the Gryphons would be awarded a penalty kick opportunity. Lainie Cadieux stepped up and converted, firing the shot past Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) to give the top seed the lead.

The Valiants would be unable to get a good look on the other side of the field over the remainder of the game, as they would take just one shot after falling behind as Natalie Aracena's (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy) kick would sail high of the net. Aracena would account for six of the team's eight total shots, including all three shots on target, but was unable to solve Lee in the net. Dori Grasso (Shelton, Conn./St. Joseph) and Alessia Cioffi (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) fired Manhattanville's other two shot attempts.

Girard would be perfect in net for the Valiants outside of the penalty kick goal, making three saves on the night. The rookie's solid first year on the pitch comes to a close with a 1.47 goals-against average and 106 saves. Girard will head into the offseason holding the seventh-best single-season goals-against average in program history.

The Gryphons earned an 11-8 shot advantage on the night, with four of their shots going on net compared to Manhattanville's three. There was just one corner kick awarded on the night, earned by Manhattanville in the second half.

Sarah Lawrence advances to take on Farmingdale State in the Skyline Conference Championship match on Saturday.
