Men’s Soccer Falls To Yeshiva In Skyline Semifinals

PURCHASE, N.Y - The Manhattanville College men's soccer season came to a close on Thursday evening, as the Valiants were defeated by No. 5 Yeshiva University in the Skyline Conference Championship Semifinals, 2-0. With the loss, the top-seeded Valiants will end the season with a record of 9-5-4.

The Valiants tallied four shots in the first half with two on goal from Eli Pardo (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon), and the Macabees recorded seven shots with three on goal from Lucas Baredes.

A scoreless first half then led to an action-packed second. The Valiants had two shots with one on goal from Jostyn Blanco (Norwalk, CT/Brien Mcmahon High School). The Macabees had four shots with three on goal from Josh Ziarno, David Abittan, and Baredes.

Then in the 58th minute, the score would be broken open as a shot from Ethan Fettaya bounced off a Manhattanville defender and corralled into the net for the first Yeshiva goal.

The Valiants looked for an equalizer, but in the 69th minute, a costly foul would line up Baredes with a penalty shot opportunity. The shot would beat Valiants' goalkeeper Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) in the lower left corner to put Yeshiva up, 2-0.

Matt Rabadi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior) would tally two shots with one on goal in the final 20 minutes but Manhattanville was unable to get on the board and provide a comeback to make their way to the championship game.

The Macabees held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

In net, Granados made six saves while allowing two goals. The junior goalkeeper will end the season with a 0.82 goals against average, the third-lowest in program history.

The Maccabees advance to the Skyline Conference Finals, where they will take on the winner of tonight's Farmingdale-Merchant Marine matchup on Sunday.
