PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's basketball team improved to 9-0 on the season and 6-0 in conference play after a 65-30 victory over Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Valiants are off to their best start since the 2018-19 season.
Jamison Agostino (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) led the Valiants with 16 points, while
Niyona Smith (Baltimore, MD/Concordia Prep) had a team-high 14 boards.
Julianna Kascic (North Bergen, N.J./Paramus Catholic) recorded her fifth double-double of the season, adding 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Farmingdale would get on the board first in the contest, off a basket from Emily Pohalski. The Valiants would quickly respond and get themselves six points from
Amanda Orlando (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley), Smith, and Kascic. The Rams would be right in it early, with the biggest lead being 12-6.
Angela Downey (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) would sink a three, while Farmingdale's Erin Conte would score a layup for an 15-11 start.
Manhattanville held Farmingdale to only four points in the second quarter, a layup each coming from Adrianna Romo and Victoria Kantzian.
Livi Correia (North Attleboro, Mass./Worcester Academy), Kascic, and Agostino would contribute to the Valiants' 11 points before heading into the locker room for halftime with a score of 26-15.
In the third quarter, the Valiants went on a few runs scoring 25 altogether as Farmingdale could only come up with eight points for themselves. The team shot their best, 50%, during this time making 10 field goals and five three-pointers.
Manhattanville would start the fourth quarter on an eight-point run before Farmingdale would score a basket. Farmingdale's Lissette Cordero would add four more on the board as the game came to a close. With 12 seconds left on the clock,
Julie Debrocky (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) would swish one from the arc for the team's ninth straight win.
The Valiants would dominate on both ends as they outshot the Rams, 26-14, and out rebounded, 59-30. They would tally 28 points in the paint, 28 points off turnovers, and 17 second chance points.
Women's hoops will head to Worcester, Massachusetts to take on Clark University on Sunday, Dec. 18 to round out the 2022 schedule before the holiday break.
