Women's Hockey Celebrates Senior Day With 3-1 Win Over Stevenson

RYE, N.Y. – It was a successful Senior Saturday for the Manhattanville College women's hockey team, as the Valiants collected a 3-1 win over Stevenson to complete the weekend sweep of the Mustangs. The victory improves the Valiants' record on the year to 12-8-1 overall and 12-5-0 in the UCHC, holding third in the conference standings.

Prior to the start of the contest, the Valiants honored Ana Tittmann (Salisbury, Conn./Housatonic Valley Regional), Holly Meredith (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Vermont Academy), and Tia Martignetti (Wilmington, Mass./Boston Junior Eagles (EHF)) for their contributions to the team ahead of their upcoming graduations later this spring.

The celebration carried over into the contest as the Valiants picked right up where the left off yesterday against Stevenson, dominating possession with 38 shots in the contests compared to the Mustangs' 18. Morgan Miller (St. Augustine, Fla./Gilmour Academy) struck first 6:20 into the opening period with her 13th goal of the season. The junior, who was assisted by Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y./Millbrook School) and Charlotte Stanwood (West Vancouver, B.C./Penticton Secondary) on the score, has now earned four goals in the team's last three games.

It would take just over 20 minutes between scores, but Manhattanville continued the weekend trend of strong special teams by converting on a second period power play chance. Paige Sullivan was sent off the ice for hooking, giving the Valiants an extra skater 5:17 into the second. Manhattanville would fire four shots over the next minute-plus with Carr capitalizing, finishing a feed from Tittmann and Annie Niedermier (Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) to spot the Vals a two-goal lead.

The Mustangs recorded their first score of the series in the third, converting on a power play of their own as Nikki Kendrick fired one past Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) to cut the lead down to one with six and a half minutes to play. The Carr-Tittmann connection struck again with a crucial insurance goal at 18:12, Carr's ninth goal of the season. Stevenson would be limited to just one more shot to close out the night as the Valiants completed the sweep.

Gerardi was not tested frequently, but did make 17 saves to secure the win, including a high of eight in the second period. The junior goalkeeper enters the final week of the season with a 9-8-1 record with 502 saves on the year and a 2.55 goals-against average.

The Valiants went 1-for-2 on the power play this afternoon with seven total shots. Stevenson, meanwhile, was 1-of-3 with four shots on target. The Mustangs won the faceoff battle, 25-18, with Grace Felicio (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) having a team-high seven draws for the Crimson and White.
