RYE, N.Y.— The Manhattanville College women's hockey team finished the regular season strong against Alvernia University, despite just one goal being recorded the entire game. With 72 total shots and 47 on goal, the Valiants were able to stifle the Golden Wolves allowing only 26 total shots to finish the regular season with a 1-0 victory. The Valiants finish 15-8-1 overall and 15-5-0, and will next face the sixth-seeded Arcadia Knights in the UCHC quarterfinals on Wednesday, Feb. 23rd.
Â
While
Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) was not tested much, the junior goaltender posted a perfect save rate by snagging all 13 of Alvernia's shots on goal. With her fourth shutout of the year, Gerardi brought her season saves total to 540, setting a new single-season saves record for Manhattanville College.
Â
Ava Panzer (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) scored the lone goal of the contest just 4:21 into the first period. Panzer was assisted by
Laney Nash (Edmonds, Wash./Washington Wild (PNAHA)) and
Fjolla Berisha (Mahopac, N.Y./Brewster Lady Bulldogs (NEGHL)). It was Panzer's third goal of the season in 21 games and assists number ten and four respectively for Nash and Berisha to bump up their total points to 13 and nine on the season.
Â
Nash was consistently involved throughout the contest, recording 10 shots and 5 on goal to go along with her assist.
Annie Niedermier (Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) also contributed nicely with 8 shots on the afternoon, all of them being on goal as well as winning five faceoffs.
Morgan Miller (St. Augustine, Fla./Gilmour Academy) helped keep the offense fluid by getting off nine shots, 5 on goal and winning 12 of 21 faceoffs.
Â
Neither team was able to capitalize on their power play opportunities, with the Valiants going 0-for-4 with 10 shots while Alvernia generated five shots on two chances with the extra skater. Faceoffs were even at 26 draws apiece.
