UTICA, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's hockey team's postseason run came to an end on Saturday night, as the Valiants were unable to match the offense produced by the top-seeded, No. 2 ranked Utica Pioneers, falling 4-0 in the UCHC semifinals. With the loss, the Valiants conclude the 2021-22 season with a 10-13-3 overall record.
Manhattanville was outshot by Utica 37-16 on the night, and while
Tyler Roy (Brighton, MI/Brighton High School) was able to turn away all 13 first period shots he faced, the continued sustained pressure generated by the Pioneers finally broke through his armor in the second. At 7:46 in the second frame, Eric Holland broke the scoreless tie for the home team, assisted by Dante Zapata and Cameron Bartkoski. The Pioneers would net another tally in the tailend of the period, as John Moncovich finished a set up by Brett Everson and Khristian Acosta to put the Valiants in a 2-0 hole.
Buster Larsson and Regen Cavanagh would score insurance goals for the Pioneers in the third as Utica advances to the UCHC Championship game next weekend against Wilkes.
Roy made 33 saves for the Valiants in the loss, doing everything he could to try and keep Manhattanville in the game. The junior netminder concludes his season with 470 saves and a 3.45 goals against average.
Manhattanville was held scoreless for the second time in the season, with Utica's Sean Dickson stopping all 16 pucks he faced.
Noah Bradley (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) led the Valiants with three shots, while
Glynn Robitaille (Northville, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) and
Jarod Lavallee (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) logged two apiece.
It was a fairly clean game throughout, with no penalties being assessed to either squad until late in the third. The Valiants served both of the game's two penalties, but were able to hold Utica scoreless with the man advantage with three shots. The Pioneers won the faceoff battle by a 35-13 margin. Lavallee led the Valiants with six draw victories.
