Men's Basketball Scores 50 in Second Half to Earn Comeback Win Over Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's basketball team extended their winning streak to three on Saturday afternoon, completing the regular season sweep of Purchase College with a 74-65 win. The Valiants improve to 10-7 on the season with the win and are now 7-3 against the Skyline Conference.

A 50-point second half allowed Manhattanville to emerge victorious in the latest chapter of the Battle of Anderson Hill Road, erasing a Purchase lead that was as high as 17 points in the first half. Ten of the 11 Valiants that took the floor ended the day with a point, with Tommy Lotito (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) leading the effort with 18. The junior guard shot .500 from the field and was 6-of-7 on his free throw attempts. Lotito has scored double figures in 11 of the team's last 12 games.

Jake Dunn (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) also had a very effective day from the charity stripe, connecting of 7 of his 10 free throws as he scored 12 on the day. Petey Galgano (New Rochelle, N.Y./Wilbraham & Monson Academy (Mass.)) was Manhattanville's board leader with six, while Connor Yetman (Sydney, Australia/The Scots College (H.S.)) hauled in five caroms, three off the offensive glass.

The Panthers were in control for the entirety of the first half as a result of an immediate 10-0 run off the opening tip-off. Manhattanville was forced to play catchup for the remainder of the opening 20, but Purchase had a response every single time the Valiants starting to gain momentum. After a Galgano jumper made the score 14-8 for the Panthers, Purchase went on a 13-2 run to go up 27-10 with six minutes to play in the half. Manhattanville would cut the deficit down to eight as Dunn hit a free throw in the closing seconds, but the Valiants had work to do in the second.

Chris Brown (Miami, Fla./Coral Gables Senior) sank the opening layup of the half, but Purchase's Justin Mason responded with a three pointed to put the home team up by nine. Despite trailing the entirety of the contest up to that point, Manhattanville was able to remain composed before going on a 21-3 run over a six minute span to claim their first lead of the afternoon at 47-38. The Panthers were unable to mount a response in the final 12 minutes of play. Purchase pulled to within three, but Manhattanville fired back with seven straight points to reclaim the double-digit advantage. Purchase would not be able to pull closer than seven the rest of the way as Manhattanville shot over 55 percent from the field in the second half to complete the comeback and bring the win back home.
