Women's Lacrosse Upended by Vassar

PURCHASE, N.Y. – A seven goal outing by Kateri Sanseviro led the visiting Vassar to victory over the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team on Tuesday afternoon, as the Valiants were defeated 20-4. Manhattanville falls to 0-2 on the season with the non-conference loss to the Brewers.

The Valiants scored once in each of the four quarters but were unable to keep pace with the explosive Vassar attack that fired 41 shots in the game. Sanseviro opened the game up with three straight goals in the first quarter. Marisa D'Angelo (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) would get the home team on the board in the closing seconds on the stanza with her fourth tally of the year, cutting Vassar's lead down to 3-1 through the opening 15.

The Brewers scored five unanswered goals in the second quarter, three coming from Sanseviro. Trailing 8-1, Caity Bianchi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) took the ball for Manhattanville on a free position attempt with 4:56 left in the half. The senior made a beeline towards the net and fired the ball past Vassar's Lauren Johns to account for the last tally of the half.

Vassar outscored Manhattanville 7-1 in the third quarter to put the contest out of reach. Maura Kelly (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) represented the lone Valiant goal, scoring with 8:19 left in the quarter on a free position. Bianchi would add her second of the day to open up the fourth quarter scoring, but Vassar would score five more times over the final 12 minutes to head back to Poughkeepsie with the win in tow.

The Valiants collected 19 ground balls in the contest compared to Vassar's 27. Goalie Britney Sirota (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) led the team with eight ground balls, while Ally Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) had four. Kasey Molito (Whitman, MA/Whitman-Hanson Regional) collected three ground balls while causing a team-high five turnovers. Sirota made nine saves in goal.
