ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's hockey season came to an end on Saturday night as the third-seeded Valiants fell to No. 1 Nazareth in the UCHC Championship finals game. The 7-0 loss closes the book on what was a phenomenal season for Manhattanville women's hockey, making the championship game for the second time in three seasons.
Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) did all she could to keep the Valiants in the game, making 44 saves in the contest. The junior netminder turned away 21 pucks in the first period, but Nazareth was able to sneak two pucks past her to stake claim to a 2-0 lead.
Gerardi made another 17 stops in the second, but the Golden Flyers doubled their lead in their frame to go up 4-0 entering the final stanza. She would make another six stops in the third before
Jewells Austin (Bethlehem, CT/Nonnewaug High School) spelled her in relief, stopping all three shots she faced over the final 6:49.
The Valiants managed 19 shots in the contest while the Golden Flyers were relentless on the attack, firing 54 total shots in the contest.
Taylor Ham (Saugerties, N.Y./Millbrook School) led the team with five shots on the night, with four coming as part of Manhattanville's 10 shot second period.
Morgan Miller (St. Augustine, Fla./Gilmour Academy) won a team-high 12 faceoffs, while
Grace Felicio (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) added 10 wins of her own. The Valiants were 0-for-4 on the power play with three shots, while Nazareth logged 10 shots on its five power plays, scoring on two of them.
Following the completion of the game,
Gabrielle Cox (Niverville, NY/Ichabod Crane High School) was selected to the UCHC All-Tournament team. The junior forward led Manhattanville offensively in the tournament, collecting five points on three goals and two assists. She ends the season with 32 total points with 20 goals and 12 helpers.
