PURCHASE, N.Y. – After close to two weeks of postponements and reschedules, the Manhattanville College baseball team finally got to play its scheduled contest with Ramapo College on Monday afternoon. However, the final result was far from desirable for the Valiants, as Manhattanville's five-game winning streak came to an end with the 19-7 loss. The Valiants drop to 14-11 on the year with the loss.
It was a tough day at the office for the Valiants, suffering their highest opposing run total in a game this season. The Roadrunners plated 11 runs in the first inning alone as
John Millicker (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) struggled in his season debut. After getting the leadoff batter to fly out, the Roadrunners plated six runs without another batter being retired. In all, the first nine runs ended up charged to Millicker's docket, while the last two were charged to Miles Durney who came in to close out the rest of the inning. Durney would be charged for four runs in 1.2 innings, surrendering a pair of home runs.
The Valiants would be held hitless until the fifth inning, when
Joshua Gillison (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) beat out an infield single to short. Manhattanville would finally get on the board an inning later. Trailing 13-0,
Matt Tuite (Shrub Oak, N.Y./Lakeland) came up with the bases loaded and nobody away. The graduate student line a double down the right field line to score
Brian Bornkamp (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) and
Jake Parisi (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach), the first of a pair of two baggers he would hit in the game. The Valiants tacked on two more on a
Tyler Viscusi (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) ground out and an Gillison sacrifice fly, cutting the lead to 13-4.
The pitching woes continues for the Valiants as another six Ramapo runs scored in the eighth inning.
DJ Nakashima (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid Pacific Institute) entered the game in the third to replace Durney and pitched well, striking out five in his first five scoreless innings of work. The senior found trouble in the eighth, allowing three runs before departing with two outs and the bases loaded. All three inherited runners would score before the inning ended, saddling Nakashima with a tough-luck six earned runs in his longest outing of the season.
The Valiants scored three in the bottom half of the eighth on a
Braden Kunda (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) sacrifice fly and a throwing error on an Michael Mattica strikeout that allowed Viscusi and Tuite to score.
