PURCHASE, N.Y. – Back at home for the first time since March, the Manhattanville College men's lacrosse team was defeated on Tuesday night by a final of 16-4 by SUNY Maritime. The loss drops Manhattanville to 2-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The four goals scored ties a season-low for the Valiants, previously being held to four tallies by WestConn on Mar. 2. Additionally, the 16 goals allowed is now the most the team has surrendered this season.
After Maritime ran out to a 3-0 lead to begin the game,
Harrison Yoguez (Trumbull, Conn./St. Joseph) got the Valiants on the board with 2:28 to go in the first, notching his fifth goal of the year.
While the Valiants ended the quarter with momentum on their side, Maritime took charge in the second, scoring five times while holding the Valiants scoreless. The run carried over into the third quarter with the Privateers scoring the first three goals of the second half to jump ahead 11-1. Yoguez put an end to the run with his second of the night, set up by a pass from
Matt Schneider (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon).
After another pair of Maritime goals,
Jesse McGrath (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) netted his 19
th of the year from
Sean Larkin (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) with 3:13 left in the quarter. The Privtaeers would score in the closing second of the third before scoring the first two tallies of the fourth. Yoguez would complete his hat trick, his first of the season, with 5:33 left in regulation on Larkin's second assist of the night.
Nick Padovani (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) led the Valiants with eight ground balls while winning a season-high 13 faceoff draws for Manhattanville. Larkin,
Chris Perrone (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun),
Joey Vitta (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) and
Nolan Nye (Emerson, N.J./Emerson Junior-Senior) each added four ground balls for the Valiants. Nye was also the team leader in the caused turnover category with four.
Jason Frezza (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Portledge) played the first three quarters in net, making nine saves and allowing 14 goals.
Cody Johnston (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) took over for the final quarter, making three saves.
