FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College softball season came to an end on Sunday afternoon, as the second-seeded Valiants fell to No. 1 Farmingdale State 6-0 in the Skyline Conference Championship finals. Manhattanville concludes the season with a 26-16 overall record in the 2022 campaign.
The Valiant bats were silenced by Allie Stanya in the circle, generating just one hit against the tournament's Most Outstanding Player in seven innings. The Farmingdale senior carried a no-hitter into the sixth and struck out eight to secure Famingdale's third-straight Skyline Conference Championship.
It was a pitcher's duel through the opening three innings, as
Charli Shinstine (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) matcher Stanya's zero hits allowed the first time through the lineup. The Rams would final get to Manhattanville's ace in the fourth as Stanya helped herself out. With the bases loaded and one away, Stanya dropped down a bunt. The Valiants were unable to get anyone out on the play as Angelina Capuano came around as the first run of the contest.
Capuano would go on to do some damage with her bat, driving in a pair with a double in the bottom of the fifth. Stanya plated another run with a single to center, putting the Rams ahead 4-0 entering the sixth.
Manhattanville broke up the no-hit bid in the sixth, as
Emily Mottoshiski (Craryville, N.Y./Taconic Hills) singled to third with one away. The rookie would be stranded there, however, as Stanya got a strikeout and a fly out to avoid any damage.
Capuaon delivered one last strike for Farmingdale, a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to put the Rams ahead 6-0. Stanya retired the side in order in the top of the seventh to secure the title for Farmingdale.
Shinstine went 5.2 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits as she concludes her strong junior campaign. Her four strikeouts brings her season total to 203, the program's single-season record.
Giovanna Liggett (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) represented Manhattanville's only other baserunner in the contest, drawing a walk in the first inning.
