Men's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Finale to Vassar, 1-0

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Closing out their tough non-conference slate, the Manhattanville College men's soccer team was defeated on Tuesday night by Vassar College, 1-0. With the loss, the Valiants will enter conference play later this week with a 2-3-1 overall record.

The visiting Brewers had the majority of the chances in the contest, outshooting the Valiants 14-5. Vassar was able to strike early in the contest as Jackson Hall was able to fire one home in the 14th minute past Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) to put the visitors up 1-0. That would be where the score would remain over the following 76 minutes as both offenses were blanked the rest of the way.

Granados made five total saves in the contest, with four coming in the first half. Despite the solid play by the Valiants' junior keeper, the attack was limited from many clean looks at the Vassar net, getting just two shots on goal.

Johnny Antolino (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) and George Simpson (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) accounted for the two shots on target for the Valiants, but both were turned away by the Brewers' Eric Wnorowski who played a full 90 minutes to earn the clean sheet. Antolino would lead the team with two total shot attempts on the night, while Kendall Davis (Atlanta, Georgia/Immaculata) and Michael Mezzina (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Morris Catholic) each recorded a shot.

Corners ended in a 5-1 margin in favor of Vassar.

Up Next
The Valiants will look to bounce back as they turn their attention to conference play. Manhattanville's Skyline opener will take place Thursday night as the team welcomes Saint Joseph's-Brooklyn to the pitch at 7 p.m.
