Women's Volleyball Sweeps Yeshiva to Open Skyline Play

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Getting their first taste of conference action of the year, the Manhattanville College women's volleyball team was victorious on Wednesday night over Yeshiva University, 3-0. The win (25-13, 25-8, 25-15) makes the Valiants 6-1 overall on the year, as the team still has yet to drop a set in a win.

After setting a new career-high in assists with 18 last week against Rutgers-Newark, Caylee Premoli (White Plains, N.Y./School of the Holy Child) outdid her effort with 27 assists against the Maccabees. All but nine of the Valiants' attack opportunities were set up by Premoli on the night as the senior took the role of primary setter in the match.

Rookies Zoe Zols (Queens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) and Loren Hernandez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/American Military Academy) led the attack effort with a combined 18 kills. Making her fourth appearance of the season, Zols posted a personal-best of 10 kills to lead the team. Hernandez, meanwhile, followed up her Rookie of the Week effort from last week with eight putaways while adding eight digs.

Katelyn Kamei (Honolulu, Hawaii/St. Andrew's Schools - The Priory) had a strong all-around performance on the court. In addition to leading Manhattanville with nine digs, the senior also set the tone with six service aces. Emily Brown (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Damien Memorial) also had a solid showing defensively, matching Hernandez' dig total of eight.

Manhattanville trailed for just one point in the entire match, falling behind 4-3 in the third set. In a display of how they were in control all night long, the Valiants erased the deficit with 15 straight points to essentially put the match to rest.

Despite the final score, it did take the Manhattanville attack most of the first set to find a groove. The Valiants were only able to piece together one run of more than three points to build up a lead, but were able to deny Yeshiva many opportunities when the Maccabees controlled the serve. Ahead 18-12, the Valiants began to fire on all cylinders, going on a 7-1 run to take the opening frame.

The Maccabees would serve just nine times in the second set as the Valiants scored eight straight points to begin the frame. Yeshiva was limited to only one point whilst in control of the serve with Manhattanville rolling to the 25-8 win in the second set. Yeshiva would take the aforementioned lead to open up the third set before Kamei served the 15 point run to lead the Valiants to the win in their conference opener.
