ASTON, Pa. – Five different goal scorers found the back of the net on Saturday evening to lead the Manhattanville College men's hockey team to a series sweep of Neumann, defeating the Knights by a final of 5-1. The Valiants improve to 8-9-2 overall and 7-6-1 in the UCHC, holding onto sixth place in the conference standings.
After getting the nod in yesterday's win,
Tyler Roy (Brighton, MI/Neumann University) was back in the crease for the Valiants on Saturday. It was the senior's first time playing back-to-back games this season since November as Roy was able to hold the Golden Knights at bay once again. He made 21 saves in Saturday's win, allowing just one goal in the third period after the Valiants had already built up a sizeable advantage. On the weekend, Roy made 53 total saves while sporting a 1.50 goals-against average.
As Roy was playing a strong game in the crease, the Valiant offense got to work with their second-straight five goal effort.
Mason Emoff (Collingwood, Ont./Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL), Pembroke Lumberkings (CCHL)) got things started after recording three points a night ago with an unassisted tally 2:03 into the contest, beating Cole DeFazio on Manhattanville's first shot of the game. The unassisted tally was Emoff's ninth of the season, tying
AJ Bella (Norwalk, Conn./Connecticut Roughriders (EHL)) for the team lead.
Emoff's score would be the only scoring of the first period before the Valiants put up three in the second.
Troy Crosson (Hatfield, Pa./New Jersey Rockets (NCDC)) began the scoring frenzy 5:02 into the period as the senior netted his third of the season from
Dan Barry (St. Louis, Missouri/Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) and
Connor Boyce (St. Albans, Vt./Connecticut RoughRiders (EHL)). The Valiants barely had time to finish celebrating as 30 seconds later,
Artem Mateichenko (Kharkov, Ukraine/New Hampshire Avalanche (EHL)) scored his first of his sophomore season off of assists from
James Gregory (Darien, Conn./Connecticut Roughriders (EHL)) and Boyce. Manhattanville would extend the lead up to 4-0 at the 13:14 mark courtesy of Barry and his second-straight game with a goal as the junior defender was able to finish off feeds from Mateichenko and
Mitchell Watson (Calgary Alberta, Canada/Canmore Eagles (AJHL)). In all, the Valiants put 12 pucks on net in the period to firmly take control of the contest heading into the third.
After his pair of assists in the second, Boyce added the Valiants' final insurance tally 17 seconds into the third from
Lane Paddison (100 Mile House, Canada/Canmore Eagles (AJHL)) and Barry as the visitors' lead climbed to 5-0. Neumann would ultimately get on the board at 4:25 into the period as Cameron Hatziioannou was able to beat Roy with a power play goal. That would be all for the Knights on the day as Roya stopped all five other shots he saw in the period to secure the win.
The Knights held a 29-25 advantage on the day's faceoffs. Paddison was the Valiants' top man on the draw with eight victories.
The Valiants went 0-for-4 on the power play, firing six shots across their extra man opportunities. The Knights finished a perfect 1-for-1 on their power plays with the third period goal.
