Women’s Hockey Drops Series Finale to No. 12 Nazareth

RYE, N.Y. – After a thrilling 2-1 overtime win on Friday evening, the Manhattanville College women's hockey team was blanked by the Nazareth Golden Flyers on Saturday afternoon, 3-0. With the loss, the Valiants fall to 10-9-1 on the season and 10-5-1 in UCHC play while sitting in third place in the conference standings behind Utica and Nazareth.

The Golden Flyers got on the board early in the first period off a Julia Holmes goal, assisted by Audrey Donahue and Abby Flanagan. Manhattanville would be held scoreless as Nazareth's defensive front would hold the Valiants to just six shots through the first 20 minutes.

Less than two minutes into the second period, the Golden Flyers' Gabriella DeMeo and Flanagan would assist on an Olivia Miller-Johnson goal to add another to make it a 2-0 start for Nazareth. The Valiants would have a better chance at redemption with four power play opportunities during the period, but not a single shot would make it close to the back of the net.

In the final 20 minutes of regulation, during a Golden Flyers' power play, Ali Fujiyoshi would light the lamp once again for Nazareth off assists from Ally Watrous and Flanagan to hold the lead and secure a conference win. The Valiants would be held to eight shots total.

Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) recorded 43 saves through 60 minutes, as the defense helped out and blocked 10 shots on the day.

It was a pretty even advantage in the faceoff circle as Manhattanville won 19 and Nazareth won 23 on the 42 overall draws on the afternoon. Morgan Miller (St. Augustine, Fla./Gilmour Academy) led the team with nine draws, while Annie Niedermier (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) won five.

Manhattanville went 0-for-6 on the power play, firing only 2 shots during the 12 minutes of man advantage. On the other side of the ice, the Valiants went 1-for-2 on the penalty kill, while hold Nazareth to only six shots.

Manhattanville will hit the road and take on nonconference foe, Connecticut College, next Friday evening. The Valiants and Camels will drop the puck at 6 p.m.
