Men's Basketball Racks Up Sixth Consecutive Win in 2023 Debut

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's basketball winning streak has officially stretched into the new year as the Valiants defeated Mount Saint Mary on Monday night by a final of 79-60. The victory, Manhattanville's sixth in a row, improves the team's record to 10-3 on the season and 3-1 in Skyline Conference play.

Four scorers reached double figures in the win for the Valiants in the win. Jackson Leech's (Chicago, Ill./Von Steuben) impressive senior season continued on Monday night as the forward led the way with 19 points and seven rebounds. Leech has scored 12 or more points in six of his last seven games and is now averaging 14.8 points per game. He trails only Tommy Lotito (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) on the team in scoring, who finished with 12 points on Monday.

Xavier Kistoo-Miles (Spring Valley, N.Y./Spring Valley) had his best performance as a Valiant, as the junior scored a season-high 16 points. The Spring Valley product went 8-for-13 from the field while handing out three assists, matching Jack Scanlon (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River High School) and Ryan Giordano (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) for the lead on the night. Jake Dunn (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) would also get involved in the scoring with 11 points, going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.

Leech scored the game's opening basket 22 seconds into the contest. From there, the Valiants led the rest of the night. A 10-0 opening run for Manhattanville through the opening 3:05 put the home team in control as the Knights would never pull closer than within seven points. The Valiants shot 55 percent over the first half from the floor while limiting the damage the Knights were able to do with the ball. Mount Saint Mary's longest run of the half would be seven points to cut the Manhattanville lead down to nine. With the score 33-24 with 2:15 to play, the Valiants went on a 7-2 run to go ahead by 14. The Knights' Miles Calame would hit a layup in the closing seconds to make the halftime score 40-28.

The Valiants shot 43 percent in the second half as their lead would not dip below eight points the rest of the way home. The Knights outscored the Valiants 10-6 through the opening five minutes to pull back within single digits, 46-38, but back-to-back baskets from Andrew Saint-Louis (Norwalk, Conn./Notre Dame Fairfield) and Kistoo-Miles reestablished the double figure lead for the remainder of the contest. The lead would climb to 22 before tings were said and done at 78-56 with 1:41 remaining.
