PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's basketball team kicked off the Senior Day season on Tuesday night, enjoying a 74-29 win over Skyline rival Mount Saint Vincent. The win concludes Manhattanville's home slate on the year with an 11-2 record on the court of Kennedy Gymnasium as the Valiants improve to 16-3 overall and 12-2 in Skyline play.
The team honored their lone graduating senior,
Leah Morawski (Northport, N.Y./Northport), prior to the start of the contest. A member of the Manhattanville roster since 2019, Morawski took to the court in the fourth quarter to a raucous ovation by the fans in Kennedy as she would score two points with three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
In what has been a trend over the last half of the month, the Valiant defense caused problems for Mount Saint Vincent all night long. It was the second-straight game the Valiants held an opponent to just 29 points, which was the lowest offensive production the Dolphins have had all season by 13 points. Mount Saint Vincent would also have a season-low .244 shooting percentage from the field as the Valiants prevented the Dolphins from getting anything going offensively all night. Manhattanville would log 19 steals on the night, their second-highest takeaway total of the year.
As the defense dominated, the Valiant offense generated 74 points courtesy of ten different scorers.
Jamison Agostino (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) led the effort with 18 points as she found her deep ball again, hitting five three pointers after hitting just six across the team's last five games. The performance brings her season total to 60 three pointers, now tying for the second-highest single-season total in program history. She remains six shy of the program record set by
Spencer Shore last season.
Julianna Kascic (North Bergen, N.J./Paramus Catholic) scored 13 on a highly productive night both from the floor and the free throw line. The senior went 4-for-5 from the field while hitting five of her six attempts at the charity stripe.
Julie Debrocky (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) set a new personal-best with 12 points as the rookie guard played a season-high 21 minutes off the bench. Debrocky's classmate
Amanda Orlando (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) scored 10 to round out the top scorers, draining a pair of threes as part of her night.
The Valiants outrebounded the Dolphins by ten with a 40-30 margin. Kascic and
Niyona Smith (Baltimore, MD/Concordia Prep) led the effort with six boards apiece, with Kascic pulling down a team-high four offensive caroms. Agostino,
Kristen Scrobola (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas High School) and
Esther Ramos (Queens, N.Y./Forest Hills) would each finish with four total rebounds.
Speaking of Scrobola, the junior forward dished out six assists to lead the passing effort on the night. Orlando would lead the takeaway effort with four steals, joined by three apiece from Smith, Debrocky and
Gabby Tucker (Port Chester, N.Y./Blind Brook).
The Dolphins were held to single digits in each of the four quarters, scoring just one basket across the opening 10 minutes. The Valiants would put up 16 points before Mount Saint Vincent would get on the board 7:42 into the opening frame. The hot started was bookended by threes from Orlando and Agostino. Kira Villegas would finally put an end to the drought for the Dolphins before Debrocky hit a jumper to account for the final basket of the quarter, putting the home team up 18-2.
While Mount Saint Vincent fared a tad bit better in the second, the Valiants shot 64 percent to continue pulling away. Manhattanville put up the first five points of the quarter to push their lead up to 21. While that would be their longest run of the second, the Valiants would prevent the Dolphins from scoring consecutive baskets while holding the guests to just nine points. Another Agostino three pointer closed out the half as Manhattanville went up 34-11.
The Dolphins would be limited to nine points in each of the final two quarters. Meanwhile, the Valiants would score 23 in the third quarter alone to all but put the game away. Manhattanville would go on a 16-4 run over the final 4:27 of the period as their lead swelled up to a 37-point margin at 57-20 at the horn. The Valiants put the finishing touches on the night by outscoring the Dolphins 17-9 in the fourth as the lead climbed up to 47 as Debrocky hit the Valiants' final basket with a shot from beyond the arc. The Dolphins would score the final points of the night as Melanieann Broderick hit a pair of free throws following a foul in the final second to move the final score to 74-29 in favor of the Valiants.
