PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville men's soccer team found themselves drawing against St. Joseph's Long Island on Saturday afternoon, playing to their fifth draw on the season. The Valiants now sit at 3-3-5, with an unbeaten 3-0-3 record in Skyline Conference play.
The Valiants held a 15-14 shot advantage in the contest, while the Golden Eagles tallied more shots-on-goal at a mark of eight compared to Manhattanville's six. Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) tallied seven saves in the contests, bringing the senior's total to 51 saves.
Joseph Kresse (Goshen, NY/Goshen High School) got the Valiants started with his first goal of the season, coming in the 36th minute following a corner kick. Kresse found himself on the edge of the six-yard box from a set piece, as the ball hung in the air, with Kresse delivering a left-footed half-volley to put the Vals up 1-0 off the Michael Mezzina (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Morris Catholic) assist.
Granados would register all seven of his saves in the first half, as the Golden Eagles tallied a single other shot-on-goal in the second stanza.
St. Joseph's would eventually tie the contest in the 75th minute, after a left-footed strike from Diego Saravia beat Granados to the bottom corner, seeing that score hold despite a last-minute corner kick attempt from the Vals to edge out the Golden Eagles.
The corner kick disparity was even, as both teams registered six apiece.
