Men’s Hockey Topped in Final Minute by Albertus Magnus

RYE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's hockey team was unable to respond to a last-minute goal on Tuesday afternoon, falling 3-2 against Albertus Magnus College. With the loss, the Valiants drop to 2-7-0 overall on the season.

It would be an early lead for the Falcons as they would get on the board first with a goal from Zane Kindrachuk, assisted by Cameron Weitzman. The Valiants would respond soon after with a power play goal dished out from Dan Barry (St. Louis, Missouri/Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) to Caden Eaton (Indian River, Mich./Cornwall Colts (CCHL)). The game would be tied up 1-1 going into the first intermission.

The Falcons would dominate offensively through the second period where they would record 14 shots to the Valiants' four. It would be an Albertus Magnus goal from Harley Michaels at 13:29 to take the lead once again. Manhattanville would not be able to find an answer as they are left shutout through 20 minutes of regulation.

The Valiants would start the third period on a high note, scoring another goal to tie it back up, 2-2. At 3:44, Lane Paddison (100 Mile House, Canada/Canmore Eagles (AJHL)) would find the back of the net for his first goal this season. It would be a back-and-forth game as the clock ticked down before the Falcons would take the late lead. At 19:03, Paden Hicks would score the game winning goal for Albertus Magnus where the Valiants would be unable to respond with not enough time to light the lamp themselves and bring it to overtime. They would secure their fifth straight loss.

Albertus Magnus would outshoot Manhattanville, 58-44. Barry would lead the Valiants with a team-best eight shots, while James Gregory (Darien, Conn./Connecticut Roughriders (EHL)) would add five. 11 other skaters would fire off at least one shot through the 60 minutes of play.

William Billequey (Montreal, Quebec/Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) would get his first collegiate start in net for the Valiants making 28 saves total.  It would be a stellar performance from the Montreal, Quebec native who faced 58 shots with 31 on goal.

Manhattanville went 2-for-7 on power play opportunities which was a great showing on the offensive advantage as both goals were scored during the Valiants' PP. They were able to fire off only four shots through 11 minutes of man up. The team went a perfect 7-for-7 on the penalty kill, once again showing depth on the defensive ice. The Falcons would fire off 15 shots through 11:48 of elapsed penalty time.

The Falcons would hold a narrow faceoff advantage with 34 total draws compared to the Valiants' 31. Paddison would have a team-high 10 draws, while Raymond Speerbrecker (Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada/Revelstoke Grizzlies (KIJHL)) would collect eight faceoff wins. Eaton and Elijah Devereaux (Webster, N.Y./Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks (NA3HL)) would add seven and six draws, respectively.

The Valiants will hit the road next weekend for a UCHC clash as they take on Alvernia University on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m.
