Women’s Hockey Blanked by Trinity College, 4-0

HARTFORD, CONN. – Squaring off in their first nonconference matchup of the season, the Manhattanville College women's hockey team were defeated by Trinity College on Tuesday afternoon, 4-0. With the loss, the Valiants fall to 2-4-1 overall on the season.

It would be a slow first period for Manhattanville, only getting a pair of shots off through the first 20 minutes of regulation. The Bantams would capitalize on the Valiants' lack of offense as they got on the board first at 9:04, with a Lillian Cassidy goal from Corinne Bolding and Annika Dyczkowski.

The Valiants would find a bit more momentum through the second period with five total shots this time around. Trinity would respond with a pair of goals, the first from Ava Gosnell at 4:42 with a dish from Paige Kehoe. Then, Martina Exnerova would light the lamp on a power play opportunity, their first of the game as Jelani Adorno would earn the assist. Manhattanville would hold possession of the puck a good amount of the second half of the second period but were unable to find the back of the net.

As Manhattanville continued to improve offensively, this time firing off nine shots through the third period, Trinity would maintain their lead and add some more early. Hannah Feinberg would score the Bantams final goal of the game unassisted at 3:43.

Gabrielle Cox (Niverville, NY/Ichabod Crane High School) fired a team-high three shots at Trinity's goaltender Hannah Leclair, who saved all 16 shots that came her way. Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy), Harper Weisbeck (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland), Lindsay Reyes (Chino Hills, Calif./SUNY Cortland), and Erin Flaherty (Rockland, Mass./Canterbury School) would add two shots each. The Bantams outshot the Valiants, 31-16.

For Manhattanville, Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) would make 27 saves through 60 minutes in net.

Trinity held a 27-20 advantage in faceoffs, as Chinetti led the team with nine total draws. Grace Felicio (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) and Annie Niedermier (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) would both add five faceoff wins for the Valiants.

Manhattanville went 0-for-4 on power play opportunities with only three shots fired on net. They would go 2-for-3 on penalty kills, as the Bantams were able to record three shots and score on one of their chances.

The Valiants will take on Connecticut College at Playland Ice Casino on Sunday, Nov. 27 with a 4:30 p.m. puck drop.
