Men's Hockey Holds On For 4-3 Win Over Arcadia

RYE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's hockey team survived a late surge by the visiting Arcadia Knights on Saturday afternoon to complete a two-game series sweep with a 4-3 victory. With the win, the Valiants improve to 2-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 to open UCHC play.

Manhattanville notched three straight goals to open up the affair's scoring across the first 26 minutes of play. Nicholas Rogers (Broad Channel, N.Y./Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks (NA3HL)) scored for a second-straight day to put the Valiants on the board, burying a pass from Lucas Baksay (Fairfield, Conn./Connecticut Roughriders (EHL)) just four minutes into the game. A touch over 12 minutes later, Noah Bradley (Lancaster, Pa./Philadelphia Revolution (EHL)) scored a power play goal from Tristan Frese (Broomfield, CO/Jersey Hitmen (NCDC)) and Elijah Devereaux (Webster, N.Y./Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks (NA3HL)) to give the home team a 2-0 lead they carried into the second period. The goal was Bradley's first of the season.

The lead climbed to 3-0 as Corey Popowcer (Parkland, Fla./Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) scored his first of his sophomore campaign from Artem Mateichenko (Kharkov, Ukraine/New Hampshire Avalanche (EHL)) and Dan Barry (St. Louis, Missouri/Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) at the 6:15 mark in the period. The defender's goal was the first of four total in the period as the offenses took charge. Arcadia got on the board at 8:43 as Jude Cole scored his first collegiate goal from Michael Hertzberg. Devereaux responded for the Valiants at 14:57 as he scored his second goal of the series from Bradley and Barry. While Manhattanville was poised to carry a three goal lead into the intermission, the Knights' Justin Song scored in the closing minute of the period from Dylan Florit and Josh German to pull Arcadia back within two with 20 minutes to play.

Florit would work his way into the goal column at the 8:22 mark in the third, scoring from Drew Iannucci and Song to chop what was once a three goal lead all the way down to one. Despite bending, the Valiants did not break as the team stood firm in the face of Arcadia's attack for the final 11 and a half minutes to hold on and survive with the one goal victory.

Sebastian Woods (Limehouse, Ontario, Canada/Utica Jr. Comets (NCDC)) earned his second win of the season as he made 31 saves for the Valiants. The sophomore was his busiest in the third period, making 14 stops to preserve the win.

Arcadia held a slight 39-32 faceoff advantage. Ryan McKenna (Spokane, Wash./Sheridan Hawks (NA3HL)) was the Valiants' best man on the dot on the day, winning 10 of his 17 total faceoffs.

The Valiant power play finished 1-for-3 with two total shots, while the PK unit was a perfect 2-for-2.
