Men's Soccer Wins Skyline Conference Championship, Bests Farmingdale 2-1 in Finals

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Raising a Conference Championship trophy for the first time since 1999, the Manhattanville College men's soccer team captured Skyline gold on Sunday afternoon, defeating No. 2 Farmingdale State 2-1. With the win, the Valiants secure an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament with an overall record of 9-3-6.

Battling their way back from behind once again as they did in the semifinal against Mount Saint Vincent, the Valiants trailed Farmingdale 1-0 after the opening half. Michael Lanouette scored on the Rams' first shot of the day off an assist from Tyree Baskin Jr. five and a half minutes into play. The Valiants dominated control of the ball throughout the opening 45 minutes, logging a 6-1 shot margin in their favor. Manhattanville was able to put two of those shots on target from Joseph Kresse (Goshen, NY/Goshen High School) and Arjan Delija (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington), but both attempts were turned away by Justin Silva in the Farmingdale net to preserve a 1-0 lead for the Rams.

As was the case on Thursday, the Valiants were in complete control of possession in the second half to lead the way to a comeback and ultimately a victory. Manhattanville outshot Farmingdale 10-4 over the final 45 minutes, ultimately breaking through in the 65th minute. Keanu Stingone (Kew Gardens, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) netted the game-tying tally from Matt Rabadi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay), burying a shot from the top right corner of the box.

With the score evened up, the Valiants struck again in the 78th as Delija beat Silva as Rabadi once again set up the tally, his fourth assist of the tournament.

Claiming their first lead of the game, Manhattanville successfully ran off the final 13 minutes of regulation to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011.

Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) stopped the lone shot he faced against in the period. The senior netminder was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player following the victory.

In total, the Valiants outshot the Rams 16-5 with a 5-to-2 shots on goal advantage. Delija led the attacking effort with four total shots, putting two on net. Michael Mezzina (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Morris Catholic) took three total shot attempts, while Kresse put both of his shots on target.

The Valiants held a slight 4-3 corner kick advantage.
