Men's Hockey Season Concludes With UCHC Semifinals Loss to Utica

UTICA, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's hockey season came to an end on Saturday night as the fourth-seeded Valiants were defeated by the top-ranked Utica Pioneers 11-0 in the semifinal round of the UCHC Championship. The Valiants will end the 2022-23 campaign with an overall record of 14-11-2, having made it to the UCHC Semifinals.

It was a long night at the Adirondack Bank Center for the Valiants as Manhattanville was otushot 71-18 by the top-ranked team in the country. The Pioneers scored six goals in the first to blow the doors open early before scoring three in the second and two more in the third.

Lucas Herrmann netted four goals for Utica in the win. Shane Murphy and Buster Larsson would both add two a piece, while Remy Parker, Regen Cavanagh and John Moncovich each netted one. The 11 goals surrendered is the most allowed by the Valiants in program history.

Connor Boyce (St. Albans, Vt./Connecticut RoughRiders (EHL)), Dan Barry (St. Louis, Missouri/Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) and Mason Emoff (Collingwood, Ont./Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL), Pembroke Lumberkings (CCHL)) each had a team-high three shots on net in the contest.

Sebastian Woods (Limehouse, Ontario, Canada/Utica Jr. Comets (NCDC)) got the start in net for Manhattanville, making 19 saves in the first period while being charged with six goals allowed. Tyler Roy (Brighton, MI/Neumann University) would spell the rookie netminder for the rest of night as he would make 41 saves in his two periods of work with five goals allowed. It was a rough end for what was a stellar rookie campaign for Woods, as he will end the season with a 3.07 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage.

The Pioneers dominated faceoff play with 50 wins to Manhattanville's 25. Lane Paddison (100 Mile House, Canada/Canmore Eagles (AJHL)) had the most success on the draws for the Valiants with eight wins.

Manhattanville finished 0-for-4 on the power play with six shots taken. The Pioneers went 5-for-8 on their man advantages, firing 27 shots in their more than 12 minutes of ice time with the extra man.
