Men's Tennis Defeats USMMA 7-2

PURCHASE, N.Y. – In a rematch of the 2022 Skyline Conference Semifinals, the Manhattanville College men's tennis team improved to 2-0 in 2023 conference play with a victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The 7-2 victory improves Manhattanville's overall record on the year to 2-4.

Coming off their 9-0 victory over Mount Saint Mary on Saturday in which the Valiants did not drop a single game, Manhattanville found more opposition on the courts in Tuesday's matchup. The Valiants opened up the contest by taking two of the three doubles draws. Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) and Jaime Peredo (Uruapan, México/Instituto Morelos) wrapped up the first point in No. 3 Doubles, taking down Gabby Eitkis and Preston Bateman, 8-2. Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) and Max Moeller (Crestwood, N.Y./Iona Prep) notched an 8-6 victory over Tom Chairs and Brandon Bomboy in the second flight. James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) put up a strong effort in the top position, but the pairing ultimately fell to RJ Novak and Connor McQuade, 5-8.

Manhattanville closed out the match with wins in five of the six singles matchups. Loganadan was the first to secure victory in solos, as he defeated Chairs 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 3 position. Crowly represented the Valiants in the No. 4 flight as he bested Eitkis, 6-1, 7-5. Derwin Guzman (Harlem, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) suffered the lone singles loss for Manhattanville as he fell to Bateman by a final of 4-6, 3-6. Peredo earned the win in No. 5 Singles over Bomboy, 6-2, 7-5, leaving the remaining action in the top two flights. Over in No. 1 Singles, Hourihan held off Novak to secure a 6-2, 6-3 win. In the final game to conclude, Goodwin outlasted McQuade in a three-set affair. The junior dropped the first set 6-7 (7-5) before notching a 6-4 win to send the game to a third set breaker. Goodwin would emerge victorious with an 11-9 decision in the final set.
