Women's Lacrosse Blanks Purchase, 23-0

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team erupted for a 23-goal performance on Friday night, blanking Skyline rival Purchase College to pick up a second-straight win. The Valiants improve to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Manhattanville has outscored their last two opponents by a margin of 43-3. Friday was also the most goals the team had scored since 2018 when the Valiants ended the season with 27 goals against Delaware Valley. On the year, Manhattanville is outscoring the opposition 171-99.

With no shortage of offense for the Valiants on the night, 11 different goal scorers paved the way to victory. Maura Kelly (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) led the effort with her second-straight eight point output, scoring four goals and dishing out four assists. Brysha Schmidt (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./The Millbrook School) set a new career-high with five points, including her first collegiate hat trick, while Ally Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) posted her first hatty since 2019.

It took just 15 seconds following the opening draw control for Kelly to get the night started, setting the tone for a 10 goal opening quarter. Schmidt would net her first of the night to close out the opening minute off an assist from Petricca. Schmidt would score again, this time from Kelly , to put the Valiants up by three with more than 11 minutes left in the quarter. Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y./Millbrook School) would add her 35th goal of the year before Manhattanville really turned up the pressure, scoring six more times in the final 7:43 of the quarter. It would be Kelly getting the stretch started from Lauren Sergeant (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake), before the senior Kelly set up Schmidt for her third goal of the quarter. Abbey Playle (Reading, England/Leigh High School), Ally Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial), Marisa D'Angelo (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) and Petricca once again closed out the dominant first quarter with a 10-0 lead.

Kelly continued her dominant night with the first two goals of the second quarter, putting the Valiants up by 12 with 12:18 left in the half. Petricca, D'Angelo and Carr would each find the back of the net once more before the halftime horn sounded with the Valiants sporting a 15-0 lead.

Manhattanville added eight more goals over the final 30 minutes to close out their dominant win. In the third, Sydney Natale (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) struck twice before Mackenzie Orf played her way into the goal column with a woman-down tally. In the fourth, Playle and Sergeant scored before Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) netted back-to-back tallies. Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy) then closed out the night with her first collegiate goal in the waning seconds.

While the action was primarily on the opposite side of the field, Britney Sirota (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) successfully stopped both shots fired on net as he recorded her first collegiate shutout. The effort lowered the senior's goals-against average to 8.25 on the season, the third lowest amongst all Skyline goalies.

Twelve different Valiants collected a ground ball in the win to contribute to the team's 29 on the night. D'angelo had a team-high six, followed by Kelly with five and four from Schmidt. Kelly would earn a team-high four draw controls, while Playle caused two turnovers.
