Men's Tennis Secures Second-Consecutive Skyline Regular Season Crown With Victory at Sarah Lawrence

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – For a second consecutive season, the road to the Skyline Conference Championship will run through Manhattanville as the men's tennis team completed a perfect 7-0 conference regular season to claim the regular-season crown and the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament. The Valiants earned a 9-0 sweep at Sarah Lawrence on Saturday afternoon to cap off their second-straight 7-0 Skyline season, as the reigning champs will look to repeat with home court advantage through the tournament.



The match began with three quick doubles victories for the Valiants. Luis Gonzalez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) and Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) blanked Nikita Knecht and Peter Fathi 8-0 in the No. 2 flight, a resulted duplicated by Max Moeller (Crestwood, N.Y./Iona Prep) and Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) in No. 3 Doubles against Reid Bean and Desmond Luck. The Gryphons would not be completely shutout as they took two games in No. 1 play, but James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) notched an 8-2 win over Simon Kopecky and Clayton Miller to take a 3-0 match lead.

The Valiants continued to dominate as they took all six singles draws to close out the match. Vincent Liberatore (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) secured the first point, a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Aidan Roney in No. 5 action. After Moeller notched a 6-0, 6-1 win over Fathi in the No. 6 flight, Jaime Peredo (Uruapan, México/Instituto Morelos) collected a 6-0, 6-0 win over Vance Johnson in the No. 4 spot. Goodwin blanked Kopecky 6-0 in the first set before being awarded the win via retirement, while Loganadan collected a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 3 Singles over Knecht. Hourihan closed out the win with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Miller in the top flight as the Valiants end the regular season winners of eight straight matches.

Holding the best record in conference play, the Valiants have earned the No. 1 seed for the Skyline Conference Championship, which begins on Tuesday. Manhattanville has earned a first-round bye, and will host the winner of the No. 4/5 matchup between Purchase and Merchant Marine on Thursday. Time of first serve is to be announced.
