Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Old Westbury on Senior Day to Conclude Season

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College baseball team finished their regular season on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader split against Old Westbury. The Valiants end their season 17-22 overall and 10-10 in Skyline Conference play. 
 
Game One Recap: Manhattanville 3, Old Westbury 5 
 
The Panthers would take an early 3-0 lead in the second inning off a 2 RBI double from Michael Petrucelly. Troy Emmanuel would then hit into a sacrifice fly double play to bring another run home. Manhattanville would respond in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center field from Chris Goohs (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown H.S. East) to bring the score within two, Old Westbury up 3-1 heading into the third inning. 
 
In the third, Old Westbury's Nick Papageorge would contribute his own RBI double before the Valiants would bring the score within one. Joshua Gillison (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) would hit a 2 RBI single into right center field for a 4-3 score. 
 
Both teams would go scoreless through the fourth and fifth before Jaime Barrios would a sacrifice fly into left to bring the winning run home. Old Westbury would come out victorious, 5-3, in the series opener. 
 
Gillison would lead the Valiants at the plate with one run on two hits and two RBI. Deven Silva (Yonkers, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) would add one run on one hit, while Tyler Mandel (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) would add a hit and Brian Bornkamp (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) would tally a run. 
 
Tommy Iazzetta (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake), Jackson Branigan (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac), Jay Lockwood (Stamford, Conn./Stamford), and Myles Durney (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester) would combine for seven innings on the mound for Manhattanville. Iazzetta would be charged with the loss after giving up four runs on four hits. Branigan would give up four hits, as Lockwood gave up one run but struck out four in the loss.
 
Between games, the graduating seniors of the Manhattanville baseball team were recognized for their contributions to the program. Matthew Messina (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle), Nick Siano (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), Travis Brescia (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley), Silva, Iazzetta, Mandel, John Millicker (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley), Durney, Sean Demo (Cape May, N.J./St. Peter's Prep), Michael Musantry (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), Michael Matica (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville), Joseph Lacoparra (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), and Jake Parisi (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) were honored on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Game Two Recap: Manhattanville 4, Old Westbury 2 
 
Manhattanville's conference finale would start off differently from game one as they got an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. Matica would hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring Bornkamp home and get the first run on the board. Later, Musantry would steal third and make it home off an error made by Old Westbury's third baseman. The Valiants would lead 2-0 going into the third. 
 
Both teams would be held scoreless through the third and fourth innings. 
 
Then in the fifth inning, the Panthers would get on the board with an RBI single up the middle from Emmanuel. Manhattanville would be held scoreless through the fifth as Old Westbruy would score another in the sixth off of a Barrios RBI single to tie it up. 
 
Matica would then hit an RBI single to left field to take the lead back once again. Silva would follow up and tally an RBI to keep the Valiants ahead and eventually secure the win. 
 
It would be a low scoring game despite the uptick of hits for the Valiants. Nine players would record a hit with doubles coming from both Bornkamp and Justin Encarnacion (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes)
 
For the Valiants, Millicker, Lacoparra, Messina, Demo, Aidan Tumbleson (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan), and Durney would combine for nine innings on the mound. Demo would be awarded the win after pitching 1.2 innings, giving up only 2 hits and striking out a team-high three batters.
