PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College Department of Athletics and Recreation and Associate Vice President of Athletics and Recreation Julene Caulfield have announced the hiring of Peter Coughlan as head coach of the Manhattanville College women's soccer team.

Coughlan has officially been named the 12th head coach in the history of the women's soccer program and will replaced outgoing head coach Graham Kennett, who had announced his retirement following nine years serving as the team's head coach.

"It is a pleasure to officially welcome Peter to the women's soccer head coaching role," Caulfield said. "With his previous experience with the team, Peter knows what it takes to be successful and I look forward to having him take our program to the next level."

Coughlan served on the sidelines for the Valiants last season in an assistant coaching capacity. He worked alongside Kennett and Assistant Coach Jordan Williams to develop and lead training sessions in addition to aiding on the recruitment and player development side. Coughlan was also with the team on game days during the 2022 season, coaching the Valiants during their matches this past season.

Well tapped in to the landscape of soccer in Westchester County, Coughlan has worked with the Harrison Youth Soccer Club since 2016, where he currently holds the role of Technical Director of Coaching. In addition to training and developing coaches, Coughlan has served as head coach for youth teams ranging from ages of 8 to 18 years old. He also was the head coach for the Women's U19 National League Team. With HYSC, Coughlan had delivered one Westchester Cup Championship, a pair of New York Girls State Cup Champions, 12 total Premier League Titles across both girls and boys play, and 17 players that committed to play collegiate soccer across all three divisions of NCAA.

In conjunction with his work with HYSC, Coughlan has worked with United Soccer Coaches since 2015 as a staff instructor for Grass Root Courses and serves as a coach evaluator and assessor, working with more than 100 coaches to help achieve their coaching licenses. Since 2019, Coughlan has also worked as a freelance Talent Identification Scout for the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC.

Coughlan also worked with New York Red Bulls Academy USA from 2012 to 2016 where he served as Senior/Head Coach working in youth programs, regional development school and MLS Academy. He built up a resume of coaching and development experience a decade long prior to joining New York Red Bulls Academy USA, spending time working with Aston Villa Academy UK, Youth Offending Teams, the English Football Association, UK International and Major League Soccer USA.

"It is an honor to be named head coach of the Manhattanville Women's Soccer Team," Coughlan said. "I would like to thank Julene Caulfield, Graham Kennett, and the entire athletics department for their amazing support throughout the process. As a former assistant of the team, I have seen first hand the fantastic resources, facilities, and academic support we have for our athletes. I'm excited to get started and look forward to working with this amazing group of players, creating a team culture that embodies a winning mentality on and off the field."

Coughlan resides in Brewster, New York, with his wife April and their son, Cassius.
