NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Manhattanville women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Mount Saint Mary's under the lights of Kaplan Field on Wednesday night. The Valiants now sit at 3-2-1, earning the same result last season against the Knights.
Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke) opened the scoring in the 7th minute when she found herself being played a ball from
Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School) in the eighteen-yard box, then fired a quick shot, putting it past the goalkeeper's left foot into the side netting.
The score would stay level until the Knights' Isabella Williams was in the right place at the right time following a free kick from mid field, as the ball trickled to the back post where Williams was waiting in the wings to tap it in and level the contest in the 84th minute. That score would hold as the final whistle blew, seeing the Valiants pick up their first draw of the season in their conference opener.
Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) was once again stellar between the posts, producing ten saves, taking her season total to 43 saves while generating a 0.821 save percentage.
MSMC held the shot advantage 16-11, while also putting more shots on target 11-8.
Alessia Cioffi (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) and
Nadia Parisi (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) each put shots on target, leading the Valiants with three and two, respectively.
Manhattanville led in the corner kick department, 3-2.
