BRONX, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's tennis team was victorious on Thursday afternoon, picking up their second 9-0 sweep of the young season at Lehman College. The Valiants improve to 2-1 overall with the non-conference win.
It was a dominant start of the courts for the Valiants who dropped just one game across the three doubles flights.
Suzanna Doyle (Devon, England/Exeter College) and
Addison-Mercedes Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y.) blanked Misty Khadjia and Faith Fidele 8-0 in No. 2 Doubles, a score replicated by the pairing of
Elizabeth Dolce (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy) and
Sara King (Schenectady, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) in the No. 3 flight against Shelby Gonzalez and Stephanie Pena. The Lightning would take a game in the top flight set, but
Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Soundview Prep) and
Keto Karkashadze (Tbilisi, Georgia/New School International) had little trouble in an 8-1 victory over Viola Avdyli and Caroline Lopez.
The success carried over into singles action, highlighted by King notching a 6-0, 6-0 shutout against Alana Ortiz in the No. 5 flight. Ortiz and Doyle would each collect a 6-1, 6-0 in their respective No. 2 and No. 3 matchups, besting Lopez and Gonzalez. It was a similar result for Karkashadze on the No. 4 court, besting Pena by a final of 6-0, 6-1. Pretnar took care of business in the top flight against Avdyli, 7-5, 6-1, while
Mikhalia Grant (Mount Vernon, N.Y./New Visions Charter) completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Avril Vargas on the No. 6 court in her collegiate debut.
