Field Hockey Shutout by Drew, 3-0

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College field hockey team fell to Drew University, 3-0, on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Valiants dropped to 1-2 on the season.

The Rangers and Valiants were both off to a slow start with a lot of back and forth on the pitch. Each team recorded only two shots within the first 15 minutes of play.

In the second period, Manhattanville would be held without a single shot as Drew would go on to fire off six that would result in all three of their goals.

Alexa Thomas would score the first Rangers' goal off a dish from Emma Rider in the 16th minute. Then in the 19thminute, Rider would go on to score one of her own. Emily Monaco would score the third and final goal to carry the Rangers to victory.

The third and fourth period would demonstrate an even matchup between the two opponents as they fired off four shots each within the second half.

Florence Harrison (Melbourne, Australia/Balwyn High School) and Lidia Vasquez-Sinisi (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) split time in net for the Valiants, recording seven saves combined and giving up three goals.

Sabina Cosmo (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison)  would record her first collegiate defensive save, and tally the first save by a non-Valiant goalkeeper this season. The Rangers held a 6-5 advantage in penalty corners in the contest.

The field hockey team will be back in action at home on Sep. 12 against Western Connecticut State at 6 p.m.
