Women's Soccer Bested by Rowan

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Facing 36 shots from a persistent Rowan attack, the Manhattanville women's soccer team fell to visiting Rowan, 3-0, on Tuesday afternoon on GoValiants.com field.

The Profs started off their scoring in the first half following a rebound that Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) parried to her left, as Rowan attacker Olivia Giordano pounced on the ball and cashed in on the goal.

Girard faced 18 shots in the first half, saving three of them, with the rest missing the target. The sophomore netminder brought her season total up to 16 saves.

Rowan's Jillian Jankowski started off the second half with a goal, in almost the same exact fashion as the first, following up a save by Girard to bury it into the back of the net. The Profs then followed that with a goal from Mackenzie Clement in the 64th minute to pin the score at 3-0. The Valiants would turn away the remaining eight shots they would face over the remaining 45 minutes.
Manhattanville was held scoreless for the first time in the young season, seeing shots on goal from Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy), Nadia Parisi (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland), Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck), and Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke) were all able to fire shots on the target but were sent away by Rowan's Calista Burke. Rowan also held a nine-to-one corner kick advantage in the contest.
