Women’s Hockey Sweeps Lebanon Valley with 6-0 Shutout Victory

RYE, N.Y. –Wrapping up the weekend series, the Manhattanville College women's hockey team concluded their second sweep of a conference opponent this season after defeating Lebanon Valley College, 6-0 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Valiants improved to 6-9-2 overall and 6-4-2 in UCHC play.
 
Manhattanville would get scoring underway with a trio of goals through the first period. The shutout party would get started as Taylor Willoughby (Camrose, Alberta, Canada/John Maland) lit the lamp at 3:57, off an assist from Harper Weisbeck (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland). After some back and forth between the Valiants and Flying Dutchmen, Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy) would capital on the lead, scoring her first goal of the day from Weisbeck and Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia/King's Edgehill School) at 12:39. Manhattanville's leading scorer, Gabrielle Cox (Niverville, NY/Ichabod Crane High School) would then close out the period for the Valiants with her 11th goal of the season, netting an even strength tally from Willoughby and Annie Niedermier (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) to take a 3-0 advantage with 16 seconds left before intermission. 
 
Cox would open the second period as she had closed out the first, burying another Manhattanville goal at 4:25 of the period. The Flying Dutchmen would see most of their offensive success firing off 14 shots on net. 
 
In the final period of regulation, Chinetti would go on to score her second goal of the day at 12:59 from Lulu LePage (Swansea, Mass./Elmira College) for a 5-0 lead. Lebanon Valley would the opportunities, firing off ten shots through the final 20 minutes of play. Manhattanville would dominant offensively as Weisbeck would score one of her own after assisting with the first two goals of the game. Mackinnon and Meg Stacy (Bethany, Conn./The Gunnery) would dish out assists on Weisbeck's goal at 16:29 to keep the good times rolling as the Valiants would come out victorious, 6-0. 
 
As the offense fired on all cylinders, Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) handled business on the defensive end. The goaltender logged her first shutout of the season as she was faced with 25 shots on net. Gerardi carries a 2.55 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage into the final month of the regular season. 
 
Lebanon Valley dominated in the faceoff circle, winning 34 draws to Manhattanville's 21. Niedermier led the team with nine wins, while Lillee Dougherty (Wakefield, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey School) added five.

The Valiants would go 0-for-3 on power play opportunities, firing off six shots total through 4:06 of play. They would go a perfect 6-for-6 on the penalty kill, holding the Flying Dutchmen to only four shots, while firing off four of their own on the shorthand. 

The Valiants will be back in action next weekend for a double feature at the Playland Ice Casino as the women take on Alvernia at 3:30 p.m. followed by the men's puck drop at 7 p.m. against Neumann.
