OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's basketball team made program history on Saturday, scoring the most points ever in a single game with a 106-42 win at Old Westbury. The dominant win moves the Valiants' overall record up to 15-3 and 12-1 in the Skyline Conference.
The 106 points surpasses the team's previous record for points in a game of 104. The Valiants had twice previously scored 104, originally setting the record in 1980 against New Paltz before tying it in 2021 against Five Towns. It is also the third time the season that Manhattanville eclipsed the century mark as the team put up 100 in its first meeting against Old Westbury on Jan. 2 before scoring 103 two days later against Penn State Berks.
With no shortage of offense, the Valiants had five in double-figures by game's end.
Julianna Kascic (North Bergen, N.J./Paramus Catholic) led the way with 20 points in 17 minutes, the second time in the last three games that the Valiants' leading scorer put up 20. She would also finish with six rebounds, matching
Livi Correia (North Attleboro, Mass./Worcester Academy) for the team lead in the contest, while logging a pair of steals.
Niyona Smith (Baltimore, MD/Concordia Prep) scored 10 in 14 minutes along with three caroms. The Valiants' other three double-figure scorers came off the bench as
Julie Debrocky (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac),
Angela Downey (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) and
Caroline Barbalato (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) combined for 39 points. Debrocky surpassed her previous career-high set in the first meeting against Old Westbury as she scored 16 points while collecting five rebounds for a second-straight game. Downey scored 13, hitting a team-high three three-pointers, while Barbalato added 10 points.
There was little that could impede the Valiant offense as Manhattanville shot 71 percent in the opening quarter, going 12-for-17 from the field. While the Panthers had their best shooting performance of the game in the first quarter as well, Old Westbury's .250 clip from the field was unable to keep up with Manhattanville's scoring.
Amanda Orlando (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley), Kascic and Smith each poured in a layup to begin the day's scoring before Tyela Davidson accounted for Old Westbury's first points. A 10-0 run then had the Valiants up by double-figures just 4:29 into the game as another finger roll by Smith moved the score to 16-2. The Panthers brought the gap back to single figures off a Sierra Rowe three, but Manhattanville outscored OW 9-1 in the following 2:09 of the first to take a 29-12 lead.
The Valiants outdid their 29 point first quarter by scoring 32 in the second to quickly put things out of reach. Manhattanville scored 23 unanswered points over the first eight and a half minutes of the quarter as the lead ballooned up to a 40-point margin at 52-12. Davidson  would finally get the Panthers on the scoresheet with the team's first points of the second with 2:29 before halftime as she hit a three. The Valiants would climb back up to a 40 points lead thanks to a Debrocky three to close out the half that put the squad ahead 61-21.
Manhattanville outscored the Panthers 45-21 in the second half to close out the win. The Valiants scored 28 in the third before scoring the final 17 of the record-setting performance in the fourth. The record book would be rewritten with 33 seconds remaining as Barbalato hit a three-pointer for the game's final basket, pushing the Valiant point total up to 106.
