NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's basketball had their five-game win streak come to an end on Tuesday night as the Valiants fell at Yeshiva University, 72-59. Manhattanville falls to 13-6 overall with the loss and 7-4 in the Skyline Conference.
The Valiants' offensive effort was carried by the trio of
Tommy Lotito (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's),
Ryan Giordano (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and
Andrew Saint-Louis (Norwalk, Conn./Notre Dame Fairfield) as the starting tandem combined for 42 of the team's 59 points. Lotito found the most success against the Maccabee defense, scoring 17. The Valiant grad student filled up the stat sheet with five assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals. Giordano scored 13 and pulled down a team-high five rebounds, while Saint-Louis scored 12 with his team-leading three takeaways.
Held to their lowest point total since Nov. 12's 52-51 win over Neumann, the Valiants were unable to keep up with Yeshiva's first-half three-point shooting. The Macs went 6-for-14 from beyond the arc over the first 20 minutes, compared to Manhattanville hitting only two shots from deep in the half and four overall for the game.
Despite their struggles from deep on the night, the Valiants would strike first from beyond the arc as Saint-Louis began the night's scoring which was match by a three on the other end by Dothan Bardichev. The teams traded blows as most of the half remained close. Tied 14-14, the Macabees flexed their prowess from deep as Adi Markovich and Roy Itcovichi hit back-to-back threes to take the largest lead of the game to that point, putting Yeshiva up by six at the 9:54 mark. A Giordano layup closed the gap to two at the 7:30 mark, but the Maccabees seized control over the remainder of the half. Yeshiva went on a 14-4 run to take a 34-22 lead through the opening 20 minutes.
The Valiants would be unable to make up the ground they lost in the tailend of the first, further hindered by the Macs going on a 9-1 run over the five and a half minutes of the second to put the Valiants in a 43-23 hole. Manhattanville never got back within 13 following Yeshiva's lead climbing up to 24 as the teams split their regular season series with one win apiece.
