PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University women's soccer team concluded non-conference play on Wednesday evening, dropping a 2-0 decision to the visiting Lebanon Valley College. The Valiants now carry a 4-4-4 overall record into the final four conference games of the regular season.
In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, a pair of second half goals spelled the difference for the Flying Dutchmen. Megan Ressler put Lebanon Valley on the board in the 52
nd minute off an assist by Abrielle Miller. Miller would eventually work her way into the goal column 30 minutes later, netting an unassisted insurance tally with nine minutes left in regulation.
The ball was controlled mainly by the Dutchmen throughout the affair as Lebanon Valley outshot Manhattanville 19-7 overall and 10-3 in shots on goal. After a fairly even opening half that saw the Dutchmen narrowly outshoot the Valiants 4-2, the visitors turned up the pressure, outshooting Manhattanville 15-5 over the closing 45.
Johanna Gibson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R Murrow) found the most success for the Valiant attack, leading the team with three total shot attempts. Gibson fired one ball on net, joined by
Alexandra Brauer (Lake Grove, N.Y./St. John The Baptist Diocesan) and
Jenna Moraglia (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) with scoring opportunities, but all three strikers were denied by Camryn Porter in the Lebanon Valley net to preserve the clean sheet.
Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) started in goal for Manhattanville, making five saves and surrendering the opening foal in 67:41 of field time.
Alexa Bennett (Sparrowbush, N.Y./Port Jervis Senior) played the remaining 22:19, making three more saves while allowing one goal.
Lebanon Valley generated eight of the 11 total corner kicks. The Valiants were the recipients of a majority of the whistles, being charged with nine of the ten fouls in the game.
