Field Hockey Upended by Marywood University

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University field hockey team found themselves in a grueling match up against Marywood University this evening on GoValiants.com Field. Playing their sixth game of the season at home, the Valiants now stand at 0-2 in the conference on the 2024 season.  

As an astounding offensive powerhouse, the Pacers showed up and showed out in the first quarter alone. The Valiants were ambushed, allowing four goals in the first quarter. To open the first fifteen minutes, setting the tone of the game, Marywood scored just fourteen seconds in by Maria Tomada who struck the ball hard into the back of the cage. Her teammate Cydney Lahr assisted and scored exactly two minutes later. A short while later, Dariane Jones scored twice back-to-back making the score 4-0 at the end of the quarter.  

Manhattanville allowed just one more goal to slip through the cracks in the second quarter putting up more of defensive line. Despite being outshot 24-2 in the first half, the Valiants held the Pacers to five goals in their defensive efforts with four saves from Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) in the first quarter before being replaced by Cohort Cat Morgan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior) in the second. The two contributed shots came from Hannah Revell (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls) and Alyssa Monahan (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay High School)

Revell added another shot on the record for the Valiants in the third quarter compared to Marywood's collective nine. Of those nine, Lahr added another goal tallying two for herself and Lany Straub and Brook Barwick each had one a piece in the third quarter with the standing numbers now conveying 8-0. Morgan remained in net for the Valiants to open up the third quarter.  

Lidia Vasquez-Sinisi (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) stood tall for the Valiants in the fourth quarter protecting the cage for the final fourteen minutes. Vasquez-Sinisi and the Valiants held Marywood to one final goal in the fourth quarter contributed by Corrin Hasty to finalize the game at 9-0.  

The Pacers had an astounding 43 shots while Manhattanville was held to four.  

Marywood also held the penalty corner advantage with 20 to the Valiants two.  

Revell was marked as the top shot taker for Manhattanville with two while teammates Monahan and Keira Guinan (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) each had one.  

Morgan collected the most saves for the Valiants with 13 while Doherty had five and Vasquez-Sinisi added six to the mix.
