Women's Soccer Bested by Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Playing the penultimate game of the regular season, the Manhattanville University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Farmingdale State College on Saturday afternoon. The Valiants fall to 6-5-4 overall and 5-3-2 in the Skyline Conference, continuing a narrow hold on the sixth and final postseason berth.

Despite Farmingdale outshooting Manhattanville 14-6 on the day, scoring chances were more even-keeled with the Rams putting five balls on goal compared to three by the Valiants. The Rams broke through in the 26th minute off Kayla Mendez' eighth goal of the season from Alyse Rivera and Alexandra Coloma. Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) made two saves in the first half to keep the deficit at a single goal, but Manhattanville was able to generate just one shot across the opening 45 minutes, an attempt by Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) that went off target.

The Valiants were able to break out and generate more looks in the second half, firing five total shots with three on net. It would take until the 71st minute for Manhattanville to find the footing before Megan Leser (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) finally tested Ram keeper Hailey Stork for the first time all game. Strok made the first of her three saves in the clean sheet with the denial of Leser, later stopping Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester High School) in the 79th minute and Alexandra Brauer (Lake Grove, N.Y./St. John The Baptist Diocesan) in the 89th.

Farmingdale netted the put-away tall in the 85th minute with Rivera scoring her 12th goal of the year in the top left of the netting.

Girard finished with two saves across the full 90 minutes, falling to 6-5-4 in the Valiant net this season. The junior goalkeeper enters the final week of the regular season with a 1.20 goals-against average.

Castaneda was the lone Valiant to generate multiple shot attempts, ending the affair with two shots across her 90 minutes on the pitch. Jenna Moraglia (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) accounted for Manhattanville's other shot alongside Barrera, Leser and Brauer.

The Rams held a 4-2 corner kick advantage, while the Valiants were whistled for more fouls, 11-8.
