Men’s Soccer Outlasted by Yeshiva in Regular Season Finale

PURCHASE, N.Y. - In the final contest of the 2024 campaign, the Manhattanville University men's soccer team faltered at home against Yeshiva, 2-1, on Wednesday night under the lights of GoValiants.com Field. With the result, the Valiants now reside at 11-7-1, with a conference record of 9-2, holding the second seed for the Skyline Conference Championship tournament.

In the first stanza, both the Valiants and Maccabees traded blows where neither team could get the opening tally. Manhattanville's two top leading scorers connected to break through for the first marker of the contest, as Mason Chetti (Ronkonoma, N.Y./Connetquot) found fellow frontman Jostyn Blanco (Norwalk, Conn./Brien Mcmahon High School), with Blanco rippling the back of the net in the 26th minute, seeing the scoreboard show 1-0.

Later in the first half, the Macs would level the score at one-all, when Lotan Sapir finished off a feed from Ivan Zirlinger, with the score sit at 1-1 as the halftime whistle blew.

Early into the second half, the Maccabees would jump into the lead from the foot of Franco Busso finishing a feed from Zirlinger, for the freshman's second assist on the night, for the 2-1 score. The Valiants continued to press towards goal, firing nine shots in the remaining time, with all of them being turned away by Macs netminder. Yeshiva played with ten men for the final three minutes of the contest, but that held no effect on the final score, seeing the Maccabees emerge victorious 2-1.

Manhattanville led the contest in the shots department, 17-13, while also leading in shots on goal, 6-4. Blanco paced the Valiants with four shots, as Lucas Fernandez (Stamford, Conn./Stamford) and Demba Cham (Bronx, NY/World View High School) followed suit with three apiece.

Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) spent all ninety minutes in the net for the Valiants, turning away two shots.
