YONKERS, N.Y. - For the sixth-straight time in the 2024 campaign, the Manhattanville University men's soccer team emerged victorious in conference play, this time downing Sarah Lawrence, 1-0, on Wednesday night. Now sitting tied atop the conference table, the Valiants hold a 7-5-1 overall record, with a perfect 6-0-0 mark in conference play.
The Valiants pressed onto goal immediately as the contest kicked off, registering two shots on the net in under two minutes of play. Sarah Lawrence netminder Elijah Shohat shined in the first stanza, saving all seven shots put on the frame of goal. Thanks to the Gryphons' backline, the contest headed into the half knotted at zero.
It took just six minutes for Manhattanville to open the scoring, Nico Del Vescovo (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) finished off a play from David Trujillo (Tampa, Fla./Plant) to capture the lead for the Valiants. The advantage remained as Manhattanville continued to pepper the goal with chances, producing ten shots in the second half.
Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) got the nod for the Valiants, staying in net for all ninety minutes, saving the lone shot he faced.
All told, Manhattanville fired 24 shots, eleven of which were on net. Efforts on goal were led by Mason Chetti (Ronkonoma, N.Y./Connetquot) with three, Kenneth Suqui (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y./Sleepy Hollow), Alec Pineda (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester), and the goal scorer Del Vescovo with two efforts, rounded out by Jostyn Blanco (Norwalk, Conn./Brien Mcmahon High School), and Alessio Scanapieco (Westerly, R.I./LaSalle Academy) with one apiece.
