Field Hockey Season Ends With Semifinals Loss at Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Manhattanville University field hockey team wrapped up play for 2024 with a semifinals loss to top-seeded Marywood in the Atlantic East Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Valiants end the year with a 4-12 record following the loss.

The Pacers' conference leading offense rifled 37 shots during the course of the game, testing Manhattanville's goalie tandem with 27 of those going on target. Despite the numbers heavily in the home team's favor, the Valiants held their own in the first quarter, allowing just one goal from Cydney Lahr in the sixth minute to head into the second down 1-0.

The Pacers began to pull away with a three-spot in the second, as Lany Straub scored twice in the 24th and 25th minutes before Lahr beat the horn with her second of the contest with just one second remaining before half.

Marywood blew the doors off coming back onto the field after the break, scoring six times in the third to go up 10-0. Maria Tomada scored twice to lead the pack, with Straub, Lahr, Whitney Berge and Emma Wagner each adding a tally.

The Pacers added their final score of the game from Belle Coleman 27 seconds into the fourth.

Manhattanville was held without a shot until the fourth quarter, firing three in the closing 15 minutes. Fiona Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) was able to break up the shutout with 1:08 left to play, scoring her third goal of the year.

Alyssa Monahan (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay High School) finished with the Valiants' other two shots, putting one on net.

All three of Manhattanville's goalies saw action in the final game of the season. Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) made the start and played the first half, surrendering four goals while making a career-high 14 saves. The sophomore ends the year with a 2.42 goals-against average and 70 saves. Lidia Vasquez-Sinisi (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) started the second half in goal, making one stop and allowing four goals. She gave way to Cat Morgan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior), who played the final 23:35 in her final collegiate game, making one save with three goals allowed. The longest tenured member of the team, Morgan ends her career with 241 saves since 2021.

With the win, Marywood advances to the Atlantic East Championship finals to take on Immaculata on Nov. 9.
