PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University men's basketball team earned their first home victory of the 2024-25 season tonight against SUNY Delhi. The Valiants toppled the Broncos 71-53. The win brings Manhattanville to 2-3 on the year, while Delhi falls to 2-2.
Andrew Saint-Louis (Norwalk, Conn./Notre Dame Fairfield) was the leading scorer for the Valiants with 20, making this his second 20-point game of the season. John Ranaghan (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) followed closely behind with 16 points going 6-14 from the field. The third and final Valiant to score double digits on the night was Emmanuel Udeagha (Yonkers, N.Y./Aduvie International School) with 12 points shooting 60 percent from the field.
The Valiants opened the first half with a six-point run. Ranaghan scored the first of ten three-pointers for Manhattanville making the score 6-0 from the jump. The Valiants maintained the offensive advantage in the first half outshooting the Broncos 30-23. It wasn't until five minutes into the game when Delhi scored with a three-pointer from Gustarling Louis to make the score 6-3. Manhattanville took the largest lead of the half with the Valiants leading 24-12 with 8:02 remaining on the clock. The Broncos then scored the next four baskets to bring the score back within three as the closest margin it would for the first half. Saint-Louis took charge, making the next three baskets for Manhattanville extending their lead to 27-21. With 0.01 remaining on the clock, Andrew Melillo (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) ended the half in style hitting a three-pointer buzzer beater finalizing the first half at 30-23.
The Valiants took over in the second half shooting 57 percent compared to the Broncos 36 percent. Delhi shortened the gap to get the score with one point three times in the second half. Jason Tagios three-pointer at the 11:03 mark brought the score within one with Manhattanville leading 44-43. A short minute later, Isiah Barnes' pull up jumper brought the score to 46-45. Ranaghan scored five straight for the Valiants pulling them away to extend the score to 67-51. Carlos Urena (Corona, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) went 3-for-4 from the three-point line shooting 75 percent overall to help extend the Valiants lead. Manhattanville's lead never dropped below twelve points in the final five minutes of regulation as they closed out their first home victory of their 2024-25 campaign, 71-53.
